First Time Socks. Ready to try your first pair of socks? Socks are much easier to knit than you think. Once you've done one, you'll find the next one so much easier. This pattern is written for new sock knitters who know how to knit in the round. The pattern is also written using a set of 5 double pointed needles. I think it is much easire to knit socks with stitches on four needles, creating a square, and using the fifth to knit with. If you knit with a 4 needle set of DP's, you will need to adjust the number of stitches for each of the needles. Shaping a heel for the first time is chanllenging enough without having lots of complicated counting for the decreasing, so we use the square box heel. It is easier to work and also very comfortable to wear. It's actually called the "common heel" - which is kind of strange considering that you don't see itmuch in sock patterns. Uses worsted weight wool - 5 needle set of US size 7 DP needles. Gauge: 22 sts = 4".

Experience level: With Gusto (Enthusiastic Beginner). Requires appprox 200 yds of worsted weight yarn for main color & 200 yds of worsted weight yarn of different color for contrast.
